Stop illegal cotton exports, farmers warned
Government has warned farmers that are illegally exporting cotton out of the country and is now considering controlling the crop.
Following support extended to farmers through Cottco last summer some farmers are now illegally exporting the white gold to neighbouring countries after being lured by cash payments.
Agriculture Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Minister, Dr Joseph Made raised concern over the actions which threaten to derail the cotton sector revival.
400 000 households received free cotton inputs through the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe in the 2016/17 summer season under the Presidential Well Wishers Inputs Scheme.
Government is now working on reviving the Cotton Marketing Board.
