Preparations for ward 19 villagers’ to undertake a commercial farming project in Nyamandlovu district in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call to promote investment are at an advanced stage.

Farmers in Nyamandlovu said they are fully geared to partner investors to grow crops and process stock feed, establish a botanical garden, and start bee-keeping and other horticulture products, as a process of fully utilising the land they got under the Land Reform Programme.

Ward 19 Councillor Getrude Gumpo commended the entrepreneurship spirit and unity exhibited by the community and said that if adequately supported, villagers have the potential to supply supermarkets and hotels in Bulawayo with agricultural products.

Officiating on behalf of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Matabeleland North, Umguza District Administrator Mr Enock Zvivovoyi applauded the proposed project saying the maximum utilisation of land is critical in sustaining an agro-based economy like Zimbabwe.

“Programmes like these offer farmers an opportunity to share experience, knowledge and skills in agriculture which lead to improved production. I would like to encourage farmers to be active information seekers to improve their capacity to produce and meet market requirements,” he said.

The farmers are partnering some Indian business people who are ready to avail solar systems and other technologies to capacitate and transform the lives of these Nyamandlovu farmers.
