Experts outside China believe that on the contrary, these figures could be much higher. And maybe the world should brace itself for the worldwide spread of the virus.

The virus outbreak is suspected to have begun from animals sold at a food market in the Chinese Wuhan city with one report saying it made the jump to humans from snakes leading to some dubbing it ‘snake flu’. The coronavirus is related to the common cold as well as more serious illnesses, such as Sars.

Chinese cities are going under lockdown as the authorities battle to contain the deadly coronavirus plaguing the country. The Chinese government has shut transportation in at least 10 cities around Wuhan with the wearing of masks now mandatory, affecting 33 million people as efforts to stop the spread of the disease intensified.

Even though the World Health Organisation has not declared the outbreak a global emergency, there have been reports of the virus spreading in South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, the United States, Thailand, and Vietnam. The coronavirus is thought to have been brought in by people who had recently traveled to the Chinese city.

In the UK, people have been tested as a precaution and airports are screening passengers traveling from the virus’s source (China). A statement from the Scottish government said there were five suspected cases in the country.
